Textiles are inspiring the automotive industry

Hardly any other branch of industry is more important for the global economy than the automotive sector. Around 80 million new vehicles were approved and licensed for road use in 2012, and for many years now the industry has been registering successful growth rates. As in many other product sectors, however, the quality consciousness of end users has increased immensely. The look, feel, workmanship and durability of textile components are doubtless among the key criteria whenever a purchase decision is made. For instance, inside a modern car, nonwovens can be found in up to 40 different applications alone.

Furthermore, there are technical applications for textiles such as soundproofing and heatproofing, flexible insulation, chassis construction (carbon fiber) and much more. Here, automotive manufacturers are relying increasingly on the ideas and the innovative strength of the textile industry. As an important partner, Groz-Beckert is contributing significantly to these new developments – on the one hand by providing suitable products from its existing portfolio, and on the other by supporting developments at its Technology and Development Center (TEZ).

The different sectors in which textile applications can be found in modern automotive construction can be impressively experienced by visitors to our stand F03 in Hall 3.0 at the Techtextil 2013 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany: we've specially prepared a vehicle for you in such a way that virtually all the textile applications inside it have been made visible. Learn more about this unusual cutaway model (the so called 'TexCar') of a Mercedes-Benz E Class in this edition of the Newsletter – together with a great deal more exciting information from the world of Groz-Beckert.
